Printable place cards and name tags
Paste your guest list, pick a look and print table name cards or name badges on plain A4. Long names shrink to fit, so nobody's name runs off the card.

How we work it out
Every sheet is laid out in real millimetres, so what you see is what prints, as long as you print at 100%.
- Place cards: 4 to an A4 sheet, each 95 by 135mm flat. They fold across the middle into a tent 95 by 67.5mm.
- The top half of each place card prints upside down, so once it's folded the name reads the right way up on both sides.
- Name tags: 8 to a sheet, each 90 by 55mm, an Australian business card size, which is what a standard clip-on badge holder takes.
- Every sheet keeps at least a 10mm margin, clear of the edge most home printers can't reach.
- Cut on the dashed lines. Fold place cards on the dotted line.
- A name starts at 40pt on a place card or 36pt on a tag, with 7mm and 6mm kept clear inside the edge, and shrinks until it fits the width.
- On one line it shrinks to 24pt at the smallest. Past that, it goes onto two lines, split at the space or hyphen that balances them best.
- A single word with nowhere to split keeps shrinking on its own line. Nothing goes below 14pt. A word that's still too wide there breaks where it has to.
- A name in capitals runs wider than one in lower case, so it gets a smaller first guess and goes onto two lines sooner.
- Once the fonts load, the page measures every name and takes a point off any that still doesn't fit, until it does. A name that won't fit on one line at 24pt goes onto two lines instead, if it has a space or hyphen to split at.
- The second line sits at 14pt on a place card and 12pt on a tag, and shrinks to fit one line, down to 9pt.
- Up to 200 names at a time, each up to 60 characters.
Tips for the host
Print at 100%. In the print dialog pick A4, and turn off anything like fit to page or scale to fit. If there's a margins setting, pick none.
Do a test sheet on plain paper. Check the sizes and the spelling before you load the good card.
Score the fold. Run a butter knife along a ruler on the dotted line first and the tent folds crisp and stands straight.
Sort by table before you paste. Each table's cards then come out of the printer together.
Check the names twice. A misspelt name on the table is the one thing a guest remembers.
Print for the yeses. Not sure who's coming yet? The guest turnout calculator gives you a fair guess, and a HeadsUp invite collects the RSVPs and dietary needs so the final list is real.
Sorting the menu too? The party food calculator works out how much food and drink to get for the same crowd.
Questions
How many place cards fit on an A4 page?
Four. Each one is 95 by 135mm flat and folds to 95 by 67.5mm, so 40 guests take 10 sheets.
How many name tags fit on an A4 sheet?
Eight, each 90 by 55mm, the size of an Australian business card. 50 guests take 7 sheets.
What happens to a long name?
It shrinks to fit, from 40pt on a place card down to 24pt. Past that it goes onto two lines. In the classic look, Lachlan Murphy fits on one line at 31pt, and Christopher Papadopoulos goes onto two at 36pt.
Why is half of each place card upside down?
So the name reads the right way up on both sides once it's folded. Guests across the table can see it too.
What paper should I use?
Thin card, 160 to 200gsm, stands up as a tent and goes through most home printers. Check what yours takes. Name tags are fine on plain paper if they're going in a holder.
Are these the same as name cards or table cards?
Yes. Place cards, name cards, table name cards and name place cards are all the folded card with a guest's name that sits at their seat. Pop a table number in the second line and they work as seating cards too. Name tags here are flat 90 by 55mm name badges, for a lanyard or a clip-on holder.
Can I use them for a wedding, a work do or a kids party?
Yes. Pick classic for a wedding or a sit-down dinner, clean for a work event, and rounded for something more relaxed. Every look prints the same sizes.
Are the names saved or sent anywhere?
No. They stay on this page and go nowhere, not even to us. Reload and they're gone, so print before you close the tab.
